Spiritual Care Department

As part of your health care team, the chaplains of Washington Regional's spiritual care team are professionally trained to support patients, families and staff during the challenges, crises, and unknowns of hospitalizations. However you define your faith or spirituality, our chaplains are here to support your emotional, relational, and spiritual needs.

Chaplains are trained to listen and learn what is most important to our patients, their families and our team members. Our team acts as a partner in family meetings, in navigating the changes of medical status, in the unknowns of waiting, and provides ritual, prayer and blessings as requested. We serve as communication liaisons with family during open heart surgeries, traumas and other crisis events, visit before surgical procedures, make patient-requested visits and assist with advance directives.

Our team is here for patients, family members or caregivers if you:

  • Need emotional and/or spiritual support
  • Receive news of a difficult diagnosis
  • Feel loss of hope, purpose or meaning
  • Face difficult medical decisions
  • Need advance directive/healthcare agent information
  • Wish to contact your local place of worship
  • Desire prayer, blessing or ritual
  • Feel alone, isolated or lack support

Community Partnerships

We welcome local faith and spiritual care leaders onsite to visit their members. The spiritual care team can contact your local faith or spiritual leader for prayer, support or sacraments.

Our team also provides support to community organizations. Let us train your staff and lay leaders on being present with those who are hurting, sick or dying. For more information call 479.463.1267.

Professional Education
