Washington Regional Lab Achieves CAP, AABB Reaccreditation

Fayetteville, Ark. — Washington Regional Medical Center’s laboratory recently achieved reaccreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs.

Washington Regional earned reaccreditation following a recent on-site CAP inspection to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. Inspectors examined the laboratory’s records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and overall management.

Additionally, Washington Regional’s blood bank, a part of the hospital’s laboratory department, achieved reaccreditation for transfusion services from the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), which sets standards for blood banks and transfusion services to ensure quality and safety for donors and patients.

Washington Regional Chief Operating Officer Birch Wright said the reaccreditations demonstrate Washington Regional’s commitment to high quality care. “Both the College of American Pathologists and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies maintain exacting standards. Achieving these recertifications highlights our team members’ dedication to Washington Regional’s mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve.”

Washington Regional’s lab is among the busiest in the state and processes millions of samples each year. Physicians and providers rely on accurate lab tests to help determine the best course of treatment for each patient. Washington Regional first achieved CAP accreditation in 1978 and earned initial AABB accreditation in 2020.
