UAMS Recognizes Washington Regional as a Community Partner

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences recently recognized Washington Regional as an official Community Partner for its collaboration with the Office of Community Health and Research at the UAMS Northwest campus in Fayetteville.

Washington Regional was honored for its efforts to educate healthcare providers and staff on culturally competent care for Marshallese and Hispanic patients. Washington Regional’s Employee Education team hosted multiple cultural competency classes and training sessions with UAMS to educate more than 130 staff members in new techniques and approaches to providing the best possible care to all patients. Washington Regional also collaborated with UAMS to ensure that Marshallese-speaking staff received proper training in medical interpretation and to make health information and other materials available in Marshallese and Spanish.

The UAMS Community Partner Awards are sponsored by the Translational Research Institute at UAMS and are presented annually to community organizations, hospitals and businesses around the state that work with UAMS to address health disparities and improve community health.
