Washington Regional's Peter Fischer, MD Named American College of Surgeons Committee Chair
The American College of Surgeons has appointed Dr. Peter Fischer, Washington
Regional’s medical director of trauma surgery, as Chair of Systems Program Area for the Committee on
Trauma. Fischer’s term will begin in March 2026. He currently serves as Chair of the Committee on Trauma’s
EMS Program Area.
The focus of the Systems Program Area is the Trauma Systems Consultation (TCS) Program, which evaluates
state and regional trauma systems and provides guidance for future development. The Trauma Systems
Program Area also leads efforts to optimize regional and state trauma systems and establish a National Trauma
and Emergency Preparedness System and Regional Medical Operations Coordination Centers to reduce
preventable deaths and disability. In his new role, Fischer will provide strategic leadership and subject matter
expertise for the ongoing management and evolution of the Trauma Systems Consultation Program. In addition
to serving as Chair of the Systems Program Area, Fischer will also sit as a member of the Executive Committee
for the Committee on Trauma.

the health of people in the communities we serve through high quality care, prevention and wellness education.”
Fisher joined Washington Regional in January 2025 and is responsible for the quality of care and scope of
services for Washington Regional’s Level II trauma center, which provides the highest level of trauma care in
the region. Fischer earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and holds a
Master of Science in Epidemiology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis,
Tennessee. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science
Center, and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.
Fischer is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in both surgery and surgery critical care.
