Washington Regional Earns Redesignation as Region’s Only Level II Trauma Center
Washington Regional Medical Center has achieved redesignation from the Arkansas Department of Health as a Level II Trauma Center within the Arkansas Trauma System. The medical center’s trauma program underwent a rigorous two-day, on-site inspection to earn the designation.
Washington Regional’s Level II Trauma Center provides the area’s highest level of trauma care for critically injured patients and is prepared 24/7 with immediate coverage by general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care specialists. In 2024, Washington Regional’s Trauma Center treated 3,058 trauma patients, including 419 who were transferred from other facilities in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
“This redesignation demonstrates Washington Regional’s commitment to fulfilling our mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve,” said Washington Regional Chief Operating Officer Birch Wright. “As part of that commitment, Washington Regional is now taking steps to obtain designation as a Level I Trauma Center. In the coming years, Washington Regional and members of our trauma team will work to meet criteria for Level I designation.”
Washington Regional’s trauma services and care extend beyond initial treatment and focus on providing best-practice care for patients throughout their hospital stay to ensure optimal outcomes. Washington Regional's trauma team collaborates with local emergency response agencies and works to expedite rehabilitation placement and care for those patients who need additional assistance before going home. The trauma team also provides trauma and injury prevention education to the community.
