Washington Regional Earns National Recognition for Quality Heart Attack Care

Washington Regional has received the American Heart Association’s
Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold recognition for its commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing a specific type of heart attack known as a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, or NSTEMI. This is the second consecutive year Washington Regional has achieved Gold recognition. Approximately 700,000 people are hospitalized in the U.S. each year due to an NSTEMI, which is caused by a blockage in a coronary artery.
“Washington Regional is proud to achieve this recognition, which demonstrates our commitment to treating patients according to the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines from the American Heart Association,” said Zubair Ahmed, MD, Washington Regional’s medical director of interventional cardiology. The interdisciplinary teams at
Washington Regional’s Walker Heart Institute and the
Washington Regional Emergency Department are dedicated to improving the quality of heart attack care. The American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program helps us achieve that goal by putting proven knowledge and guidelines to work daily to provide our patients with the best possible chance of survival.”
“In the event of an NSTEMI heart attack, adherence to the American Heart Association’s guidelines is critical. These guidelines include specific recommendations for in-hospital care and cardiac rehabilitation post-discharge,” said Abhinav Goyal, MD, MHS, FACC, FAHA, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Coronary Artery Disease System of Care Advisory Group.
Washington Regional also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award. This award recognizes Washington Regional’s commitment to ensuring patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized.
