Washington Regional Center for Sleep Disorders Earns Reaccreditation by AASM

The Washington Regional Center for Sleep Disorders recently achieved reaccreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The national accreditation recognizes Washington Regional and the Center for Sleep Disorders’ commitment to providing the highest level of performance and patient care.

The 10-bed Center for Sleep Disorders first opened in 1987 and provides diagnosis and treatment for sleep-related problems such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy and insomnia for patients aged 8 years and older. To earn AASM accreditation, a facility must follow specific quality standards and meet rigorous criteria related to staff qualifications, equipment, patient care, and overall environment.

“An estimated 50 to 70 million Americans have sleep disorders, according to the National Institutes of Health,” said Washington Regional Chief Operating Officer Birch Wright. “We know sleep is vitally important to both mental and physical health. Washington Regional is dedicated to high quality, compassionate care and this latest reaccreditation demonstrates our continued commitment to our mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve.”

The Center for Sleep Disorders first earned AASM accreditation in 1995 and evaluation for reaccreditation occurs every five years.
