About the Internal Medicine Residency Program
The UAMS/Washington Regional Internal Medicine Residency Program was created to train highly skilled internists while providing care to the communities of Northwest Arkansas and welcomed its first class of residents in 2023. Residents receive training at Washington Regional Medical Center’s state-of-the-art facilities in Fayetteville, Arkansas, under the supervision of faculty members who are dedicated to providing excellent patient care while training the next generation of health care specialists.
One of the biggest benefits of the UAMS/Washington Regional Internal Medicine Residency Program is its size. The program is structured to support eight residents per class, allowing for individualized support, mentorship and graded autonomy. Residents work with the same core group of faculty members throughout the program.
The Internal Medicine Residency Program utilizes an evidence-based medicine curriculum, a quality improvement curriculum and a structured research curriculum to give residents the tools that they need to be successful. Residents see a wide array of patients and diverse pathologies in both the hospital and ambulatory settings. In addition to clinical rotations, residents engage in case-based learning, didactics and simulations, and gain experience performing procedures.
