Signs and Symptoms

When stroke strikes, act FAST

When it comes to stroke treatment, time is everything. If you or someone you know is showing any warning signs of a stroke, call 911 right away.

Use FAST to remember the warning signs of a stroke:

FACE: Ask the person to smile. Warning sign – One side of the face does not move as well as the other.

ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms. Warning sign – One arm drifts or does not move.

SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Warning sign – Person slurs words or cannot speak.

TIME: If you observe ANY of these warning signs, call 911 immediately. Don’t delay! Patients who arrive at the emergency room within three hours of their first symptom have much better survival rates and much lower degrees of disability
