Mobile Dental Clinic Receives Grant
Washington Regional Mobile Dental Clinic recently received a $22,758 grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to help provide dental services to uninsured and low-income adults throughout Northwest Arkansas. This is the third grant Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation has provided to the Mobile Dental Clinic, which Washington Regional introduced in September 2014.
Since 2014, the 40-foot customized vehicle has been driven nearly 18,000 miles to deliver free dental services and preventive education to more than 2,500 individuals. Staffed with two part-time dentists, a dental hygienist and dental assistant, the Mobile Dental Clinic features two exam rooms, a lab, an X-ray machine, sterilization system and computer network for medical records and scheduling.
Partnering with five nonprofit organizations throughout Benton, Carroll and Washington counties, the Mobile Dental Clinic provides initial screening and assessment for each patient at one of these partner sites. Once a treatment plan is established, each patient is scheduled on a 6-month appointment cycle to receive regular cleaning and preventive care.
“Delta Dental’s generous and ongoing support will help the Mobile Dental Clinic serve 1,500 uninsured and low-income adults in 2017 who otherwise would not have access to dental care,” said Larry Shackelford, Washington Regional Senior Vice President-Outreach Services. “We are grateful that Delta Dental has chosen to partner with Washington Regional to address this unmet need in Northwest Arkansas.”
