For Agencies

Faith in Action partners with several community service agencies throughout Washington and Benton counties.  Agencies refer potential clients to FIA and also receive referrals from us.  FIA refers individuals to other agencies or programs who may have needs that go beyond the scope of our program.

FIA Services

FIA is a volunteer-based organization providing homebound seniors with free, non-medical services to promote their independence, dignity and quality of life.  Services include:

  • Friendly visits
  • Grocery shopping
  • Transportation
  • Reading mail
  • Chore assistance
  • Telephone reassurance

Agency Referral Guidelines

  1. Individuals appropriate for referral include:

    • persons who are age 60 and over and homebound  - no longer driving
    • an individual or couple who do NOT have family or a support system to help them
    • persons who may or may not have limited mobility
    • residents of Washington County or Benton County
    • those who do not qualify for similar services elsewhere
    • people whose situation is "volunteer friendly"

  2. Our ability to fill any request is dependent upon the availability of volunteers. There may be times when we are unable to fill a request.

  3. FIA is a volunteer-based organization.  If FIA determines that the home or person being referred is unsafe or presents an extreme environment of filth, insect infestation, and other extremes, FIA will not be able to provide a volunteer.

  4. All FIA clients must go through an assessment before any services can begin.

  5. FIA is NOT an immediate source of transportation! FIA provides transportation for FIA clients who are unable to use a van from senior centers or Ozark Regional Transit. FIA clients must be able to get in and out of a vehicle without physical assistance and FIA volunteers cannot transport clients who are wheelchair bound.  FIA is not designed for emergency transportation or numerous rides per week (allergy shots, therapy appointments, etc.).  Five (5) business days notice are required for all transportation requests after a client has been assessed.

  6. Before making a referral for transportation, please be sure that you have exhausted other resources (family, Ozark Transit, Senior Center Vans, Taxi coupons, etc.).

  7. If a person is living with an able-bodied relative or friend, it is not appropriate to ask volunteers to do chores or yardwork. If that relative can drive, they need to be providing transportation if possible.

  8. Volunteers do not do any personal or medical care - bathing, taking people to the toilet, changing surgical dressings, etc.

  9. FIA volunteers are not permitted to dispense medication or sign legal documents.

  10. FIA volunteers cannot be responsible for taking a person to outpatient surgery, taking them home and staying with them for supervision after that surgery.  Those patients must find a family member to help them or contact a private pay agency for a caregiver.

  11. Volunteers are not able to move individuals to a new home or apartment, do major house cleaning or sit with a person for a long period of time (over 1-2 hours).

  12. Please inform your referral that there is never a charge for services provided by FIA.

  13. Please be sure to inform the person you are referring that they must call FIA to inquire about our services or they agree to have FIA call them.

These guidelines are designed to assist professionals in determining which persons are appropriate for referral to Faith in Action (FIA).  Do not hesitate to contact FIA at 479-463-7862 (Washington County) or 479-273-3570 (Benton County) if you have any questions.
