Quality Care
Our goal at Washington Regional is to provide quality, compassionate care.  Our Emergency Department is staffed by highly skilled physicians and nurses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist you and your family if an emergency occurs.

Is it an Emergency?
The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) offers a list of warning signs that indicate a medical emergency.

  • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
  • Chest or Upper abdominal pain or pressure
  • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
  • Changes in vision
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Any sudden or severe pain
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Suicidal feelings
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Unusual abdominal pain

Children have unique medical problems and may display different symptoms than adults.  Symptoms that are serious for a child may not be as serious for an adult.  Always get immediate medical attention if you think your child is having a medical emergency.

If you think your medical condition is life-threatening or the condition will worsen on the way to the hospital, call 911.

How quickly you are seen by a physician depends on the triage process.  When arriving at the Emergency Department, a triage nurse will perform a basic assessment of symptoms and determine the severity of illness. A patient’s order of treatment in the Emergency Department is based on the severity of the illness, not on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Patients identified by our triage staff as having life-threatening conditions are taken directly into our Emergency Department for evaluation and treatment. Therefore, patients with illnesses or injuries identified as not life-threatening may experience a wait while more serious cases are treated.

Washington Regional Medical Center admits and treats all patients without regard to race, religion, sex, age, disability or ability to pay.
