Cancer Support Home

Our mission is to provide hope and comfort to those learning to live with cancer.

A Healthy Environment

The Cancer Support Home is a home-like facility for cancer patients and their families. There are two convenient locations, one in Bentonville and the other in Fayetteville. The home offers hope, comfort and resources to those seeking assistance in coping with cancer. All services are offered at no cost including:

  • Classes and seminars
  • Counseling for children
  • Guest Rooms
  • Mastectomy supplies
  • Resource library
  • Screenings
  • Support group
  • Wig Boutique

Days and Hours

You may visit our home during regular hours, Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. A staff person or volunteer will be available at the Cancer Support Home each weekday during regular business hours. Support group meetings and other activities occur at various times of the day and evening.

Support Sessions

Individuals meet weekly or monthly in various support group sessions for open discussion and education. Groups offer practical and emotional support for patients and caregivers. All groups are confidential and facilitated by licensed professionals or experienced peer leaders.

Boutique

Our Boutique is designed to be a private and comfortable place where patients may try on wigs, turbans and hats. We also have a prosthesis fitting room containing various breast forms, bras and other supplies a mastectomy patient might need.

Educational Opportunities

Classes and seminars are held throughout the year on a variety of topics dealing with cancer. Some of these include:

  • Caregiving
  • Nutritional information
  • Physical activity in the role of healing
  • Spiritual importance in the role of healing
  • Clinical trials
  • Communication between patients and loved ones
  • Creative workshops, such as scrapbooking, knitting and journaling

"Look Good, Feel Better"

"Look Good, Feel Better" is a program developed in a partnership with the Personal Care Products Council, the National Cosmetology Association and the American Cancer Society.  Experts explain and demonstrate how to cope with body changes resulting from treatment through different beauty techniques to improve appearance and, as a result, improve self-image.  This program is offered eight times a year at the Cancer Support Home and is performed by a licensed cosmetologist.

Resource Library

Our collection of literature can help you and your family learn more about a particular condition and its treatment options. In addition to take-home brochures, you’ll find books on coping,  humor, encouragement and healing. In addition, free internet access is available to assist in your search for the most current information.

Children's Counseling

Through a partnership with H.O.P.E., Inc., counseling is provided to children who have a loved one living with cancer. While oncology social workers lead children through creative and expressive activities designed to help them deal with the fear associated with a cancer diagnosis, a nurse navigator meets with adults in the family to offer guidance and encouragement .

Guest Rooms

Guest rooms are available for out-of-town cancer patients who are undergoing treatments and/or hospitalization. These rooms, available at the Cancer Support Home in Fayetteville only, are also offered to family members accompanying a patient. If a patient is receiving cancer treatment at any area facility, one support person may stay overnight with the patient. When a patient is hospitalized, two support people may stay overnight at the home. This program is provided for patients upon referral and is based upon room availability.

Screenings

Early detection is key to cancer survival, and regular screenings are important aspects of quality healthcare.  At scheduled events throughout the year, the Cancer Support Home offers free screenings for breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancers.

Volunteer Opportunities

The opportunities for volunteers are endless and the need is great. Volunteers play a key role in the Cancer Support Home by assisting the staff with a variety of duties. All volunteers are provided with a complete orientation.

Support

Primary funding for the Cancer Support Home is provided by the Cancer Challenge, Susan G. Komen for the Cure – Ozark Affiliate and Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Foundation. Other recent funding partners include the Ryan Murphy Cancer Fund, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and Bank of America.

Gifts and memorial contributions by individuals, organizations and corporations also make it possible for the Home to provide the free programs and services that offer hope, comfort and resources to area cancer patients and their families.

You may make a tax-deductible donation to the Cancer Support Home by contacting Washington Regional Foundation.
